HOW TO PITCH A GALLERY AND STAY THERE • JENNIFER GLAVE & BJ KOCEN • SATURDAY, NOV 9 • 12-2pm

How+to+Pitch+a+Gallery+header-1.jpg

INSTRUCTOR: JENNIFER GLAVE & BJ KOCEN

For Artists who have been curious or frustrated approaching a gallery or lack of sales once associated with a gallery, this seminar is for you.

Jennifer Glave & BJ Kocen of the Glave Kocen Gallery will bring their 20+ years of combined experience to share specific tactics to improve your gallery relationships and candidly answer your questions.

The Glave Kocen Gallery is considered one of the most respected as far as selling for their artists and representing them with the upmost integrity. They also own and operate The Current Art Fair and have been helping artists through one on one consulting and seminars for two years now.  This husband and wife team are thrilled to be an open book to bolster your efforts to find and sustain lifetime partnerships in your business.

Artists who have attended this workshop in the past have raved about what Jennifer and BJ shared...

Your presentations today were wonderful.  I’ve taught Art Education at several universities and I always complained that they don’t teach “the business of art” . I was told, “Who’s going to teach it?” — how telling! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. ~ Mary Jane Zander

What a class--like pearls from a fountain! It was 2+ hours of clear, concise, and succinct information about what to do (and what NOT to do) when approaching galleries for representation. Many other topics were covered as well, such as: having an online presence, how to sustain a partnership with your gallery, and framing.  Thank you so much, Bj Kocen and Jennifer Glave! ~ Linda Hollett Bazouzi

This seminar is limited to the first 40 people who sign up.

CINDY PROCIOUS: CONTEMPORARY STILL LIFE PAINTING • MONDAY - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18-24 • 10AM-5PM

WEEKLONG WORKSHOP: CONTEMPORARY STILL LIFE PAINTING

Contemporary Still Life Painting is a week-long course focused on realist painting using methods of the Old Masters. It is open to anyone who paints in oil, from beginner to advanced.

Students will learn a layered indirect painting technique, incorporating underpainting, layering and glazing. We will explore a variety of techniques for realistically creating the illusion of different surface textures, as well as how to achieve rich color and depth of form to create a luminous work of art with a high level of finish. We will also learn how to use Photoshop as a tool to create more successful paintings.

Emphasis will be placed on design, composition, and lighting to create a dramatic still life set up.  Working from direct observation, we will cover the basic elements of painting in oil - from the initial drawing on canvas, to color, value, edge control, glazing/scumbling, and final varnishing.

Students will create their own complete narrative scene incorporating food and drink of their choice. Through demonstration and individual instruction in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, students will be guided through the entire process from the first drawing on the canvas to the finishing flourishes.

The workshop will meet Monday & Tuesday where artists will begin their paintings. Then the paintings will need to dry for 2 days. The workshop will resume on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There is also a Painting Challenge scheduled for Wednesday, where Cindy will demonstrate her quick-painting method working on subjects of the students’ choosing.

Roberto Osti header.jpg

READING THE BODY WORKSHOP WITH ROBERTO OSTI

A figure anatomy- figure drawing workshop with focus on the aesthetic and dynamic aspects of the human figure.

In this intensive 2 day workshop, students will learn the essential elements of anatomy for artists that can be applied to the practice of figure drawing. The emphasis of this workshop will be on the aesthetic and dynamic aspects of the human figure. Starting from the structural, layered method developed during the Renaissance and moving on to the expressive aspects of the human figure at rest and in movement, the students will learn to “read” and recognize the body’s structural and anatomical characteristics, allowing the artist to employ an “active” interpretation of the human figure rather than a mimetic or passive one. Each class will begin with a 1-hour lecture followed by a 5-hour figure drawing session with live models, alternating male and female models each day.

FRIDAY NIGHT LECTURE: BEING A PAINTER IN THE DIGITAL AGE

This internationally collected artist speaks about being a painter in the digital age and his unique take on the current and future state of the internet, social media, and the business of art. Duane Keiser is the innovator behind the 'A Painting A Day' phenomenon, where artwork produced on the easel is immediately offered (and in his case promptly sold) on eBay in their auction setting. This process has garnered him press from USA Today, The New York Times, and The Huffington Post and earned him an international reputation. Refreshments will be served and there will be time to meet the artist.
