Jean Hirons has been working exclusively in the medium of soft pastel since 1994 and has taught the medium since 2004. She taught a pastel class at Montgomery College (Rockville campus) from 2005 to 2012 and now teaches in her studio at Artists and Makers 2 and Compass Atelier 2.
In 2012, she published her award-winning book Finding Your Style in Pastel, which presents the many options that pastel artists have in using the medium. She carries this philosophy into the classroom by teaching composition, color usage and pastel techniques without forcing people to paint what or how she paints.
Jean is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, past president of the Maryland Pastel Society, and a Master Circle member of the International Association of Pastel Societies. Her paintings can be viewed in Studio 320 at Artists and Makers 2 and on her website: www.jeanhirons.com. She also shares her painting process on her blog: www.jeanhironsblog.com.
