Faculty-Dora Patin

Dora Patin is a representational oil painter working in the Washington DC area. She was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary. She is a graduate of the Master Artist Program. Since finishing the program in 2020, she has participated in numerous exhibitions in the DMV area. She is also a returning artist at the Affordable Art Fair in New York City.

She has won several honors and awards including the 2022 Bertha Clum Award and Best in Show at the 2024 annual Strathmore juried exhibition.

Dora’s main focus is still life painting in the Trompe L’oeil tradition. It’s the perfect style for her love of close-up compositions that allow for intimate and detailed exploration of her subjects. Her inspiration comes from many different sources, such as her Hungarian upbringing, her role as a mother, and simply from everyday experiences.

“I love the endless possibilities that Trompe L’oeil offers. Initially, I struggled to settle with one genre, until I realized that Trompe L’oeil doesn’t constrain me. Within its realm, I can integrate elements of still life, portraiture, landscapes, and more. In addition, I love the playful nature of this genre. The sense of wonder, amazement and disbelief it evokes make the long hours invested in its creation absolutely worth it.”
